Archway of Trees

This photo was taken in the south of Sri Lanka, on the road from Kataragama. The canopy of tree branches cut off the hot mid-day sun and gave a refreshing feeling to travelers.
Floating Flowers

The photo depicts yellow flowers floating in a bowl of water. Flowers are floated on bowls of water at the entrance of hotels, commercial buildings and in some Sri Lankan homes. It is meant to be a welcoming sign for visitors.
In this photo, the yellow flowers are called “Rukkaththana” in Sinhala. It belongs to the Alstonia family. The bark of the tree is used in medicine as an astringent, in treatment of malarial fever, chronic dysentery, diarrhoea and in snake bite; The milky juice is applied to ulcers.
The original photograph was edited to give a painted effect.
